Symphony Women’s Association Chair
Before joining the St. Louis Symphony, Shannon Wood was principal timpanist with the Grand Rapids Symphony from 2007-2013, and has also held that position with the Florida Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as Assistant Principal with the Charleston Symphony and Naples Philharmonic. A New World Symphony fellow, Wood has performed with many other orchestras, including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Philadelphia Orchestra.
Wood attended the University of Michigan, studying with Michael Udow and Salvatore Rabbio. He received his Master of Music degree from Temple University and continued his studies with Tom Freer of the Cleveland Orchestra.
As an orchestral and chamber musician, Shannon Wood has toured extensively throughout Europe, New England, South America and the United States. He has served on the faculty of University of Miami and Interlochen Center for the Arts and his summer engagements have included the Aspen Festival, Colorado Music Festival, Spoleto USA and Italy, Tanglewood Institute, and the American Institute of Musical Studies in Austria.
