In honor of the Russian giant, this program led by Andrey Boreyko includes the composer’s Symphony No. 1, “Winter Dreams,” which artfully illustrates a frosty landscape complete with Russian folk tunes. Violinist Vadim Gluzman makes his STL Symphony debut performing the composer’s fiery Violin Concerto on the Stradivari violin, “ex-Leopold Auer,” named for the Russian violinist to whom Tchaikovsky dedicated the concerto.
