FREE COMMUNITY CONCERTS

2012/2013 SEASON

To enrich people’s lives through the power of music by providing free, live events in intimate community settings

Musicians from the St. Louis Symphony have a long tradition of making beautiful live music accessible to everyone in our community. Whether it’s on our own stage, at a favorite neighborhood venue, a house of worship, a college or a senior center, you can find musicians from the Symphony in community performances that are free and open to the public.

All community concerts are casual and last for about an hour. Dates for some of our upcoming concerts are provided here –please check our website frequently for updated concert listings.


SYMPHONY IN THE CITY

On Stage at Powell Chamber Concert Series

For this concert series, we throw open the doors of Powell Hall and invite our audience to sit on stage and interact with musicians to enjoy a casual and unique evening of music. These concerts are absolutely free, and no tickets or reservations are required. Parking in our lot is complimentary, and each concert is followed by a simple free reception. Doors open at 6:30pm and all On Stage concerts begin at 7pm.

Symphony Instruments 101 featuring Strauss’ Till Eulenspiegel Quintet
An instrument playground will be available after the concert so you can discover your inner musician! Free reception featuring beer and Bavarian pretzels in honor of Strauss and the Oktoberfest season.

SYMPHONY IN YOUR COLLEGE

Many accomplished college musicians are members of the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra. Others are employed through our Campus Coordinator program which connects area students with great discounted tickets for concerts at Powell Hall.

Musicians from the St. Louis Symphony also present chamber concerts at college and university performance venues. These concerts are free and open to the public.

The St. Louis Symphony partners with many area houses of worship to present chamber concerts for congregation members and their neighbors from the community. Houses of worship may apply to host a Symphony Where You Worship concert by completing this application: Symphony Where You Worship Application.

Olivier Messiaen’s Quartet for the End of Time

Featuring Diana Haskell, clarinet, Erin Schreiber, violin, Alvin McCall, cello, and Patti Wolf, piano

Don’t miss this powerful piece of music that was created by French composer Olivier Messiaen during his time as a prisoner of war in Nazi Germany. This work was premiered on broken old instruments for more than 400 other prisoners at Stalag 8 in 1941. Join us for just one or all three of these concerts to hear this inspiring work.
