Link Up is a hands-on music curriculum for students in grades 3–5 that explores orchestral repertoire in the music classroom while preparing students to sing and play recorders or string instruments from their seats in a culminating STL Symphony Link Up concert at Powell Hall. If you are teaching recorder, singing, or beginning violin, this is a curriculum that will fit perfectly into your classroom. All new teachers participating in the Link Up program are required to attend a free professional development session at Powell Hall, veteren teachers are also strongly encouraged to attend.
Introduce your students to the orchestra by helping them get ready to become a part of it! Find out more by watching this short video from our partners at Carnegie Hall.
The Link Up Concert Experience
The Orchestra Moves
Wed, May 10, 2017
9:30am & 11:00am
When an orchestra plays, we may notice more than one kind of movement. We can hear sounds move as the musicians change their pitches, rhythms, and dynamics, cuasing the melody, rhythm and harmony to change. We can see the musicians' bodies move as they play. We may feel our emotions moving and changing in reponse to the music we hear. Link Up is a hands-on music curriculum that explores orchestral repertoire in the classroom with a culminating concert with the St. Louis Symphony at Powell Hall! Featuring Beethoven's Symphony No. 5, Mendelssohn's A Midsummer Night's Dream, and Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro.
The $5 ticket cost includes the student workbook and concert ticket to the STL Symphony Link Up Concert at Powell Hall.* Registered teachers receive a Teacher Guide (including a companion DVD & CD) and access to a downloadable PDF of Link Up Beginnings Teacher Guide, Student Guide and online accompanying audio provided via Carnegie Hall's digital library.
*Students will need to provide their own soprano recorder.
