Free tour rally concert planned at Powell Hall August 28, 2012
(ST. LOUIS) – The St. Louis Symphony announced today it will perform at London’s Royal Albert Hall as part of the BBC Proms. The concert takes place on September 4, 2012 during the Symphony’s first European tour since 1998, and the first led by Music Director David Robertson.
To celebrate its return to international touring, the St. Louis Symphony is hosting a special tour rally concert Tuesday, August 28 at 5:30pm at Powell Hall. The event is free and open to the public, but tickets are required and may be reserved starting August 1 at www.stlsymphony.org . It’s St. Louis’s chance to preview some of the music the Symphony will perform in Europe and to give a send-off to the musicians.
In addition to the newly-announced Proms date, the St. Louis Symphony makes debut performances at the Musikfest Berlin | Berliner Festspiele, the Lucerne Festival, and at the Salle Pleyel in Paris during the 2012 European Tour. The concerts will feature works by Beethoven, Brahms, Sibelius, Schoenberg, Gershwin, Ives and Elliott Carter. Acclaimed violinist Christian Tetzlaff will be the featured soloist during the tour.
This tour has received major dedicated funding from Monsanto Company and from several anonymous donors, which in combination with performance fees ensures a balanced budget for the tour.
