Press Release 12/19/2012 Clowns on Call
ST. LOUIS SYMPHONY COLLABORATION WITH CIRCUS FLORA FEATURED ON KSDK-TV
A new SymphonyCares collaboration between the St. Louis Symphony and Circus Flora was recently featured during Mike Bush’s “Making a Difference” segment on KSDK-TV.
The story focused on the Clowns on Call program. Created by Circus Flora clown Claire Wedemeyer, Clowns on Call brings a bit of the big top to children in the hospital, lifting spirits and bringing smiles. St. Louis Symphony violinist Angie Smart is also in on the act, providing terrific music during Claire’s antics.
The pair provides group sessions for children who are well enough to come to the common area at Mercy Hospital, and also offers private visits for those patients who cannot make it out of their rooms. The goal: helping the children during their stay by providing laughter and fun.
Since its inception last February, Clowns on Call has entertained more than 1,200 patients.
