Youth Orchestra Audition Information
Some general information about the audition process is listed below:
- Preliminary auditions are held in May. These are for interested students who are not currently in the Youth Orchestra. There is a non-refundable fee of $15 for the preliminary audition.
- Final Auditions are held near Labor Day. These are for those students who advance through the preliminary auditions and those from the previous season who wish to re-audition for the Youth Orchestra. All members re-audition annually for admission.
- For the preliminary auditions a student is asked to prepare a 3-5 minute solo for their choice (unaccompanied) and two scales: one major and one melodic minor, with at least three sharps or three flats in the key signature.
- For final auditions, a solo is again requested (it may be the same as played for the preliminary audition.) Orchestral excerpts that will be provided about three weeks before the finals. The judges may request scales and or sight reading.
- All auditions are by appointment
